Once a year, Gregynog (a large country mansion in the middle of Wales), plays host to a number of 2nd year students from Aberystwyth Computer Science. The aim is to educate 2nd year students about the upcoming opportunity of an industrial year, and prepare them for the applications through mock interviews, mock assessment centre scenarios, and advice from employers/past students. Since attending in my 2nd year (2011), I have returned every year in an effort to show students that graduating with a year of industry experience will put them in far greater stead than graduating with no real work experience.

Gregynog 2019

No presentation this year, I was running the assessment centre!

Gregynog 2018

See the presentation for this year.

Gregynog 2017

This year I gave a presentation about applying for internships at Google, including application tips and the roles on offer. Have a look through that, then apply using the custom link that Google gave us specifically for Aber students to use for applications this year.

Gregynog 2016

After speaking to a Google recruiter about the Gregynog event, they provided me with a presentation comprising of information on the different types of roles and internships available at Google, advice on how to make your CV great, especially for Google, and info on interviews. You can review the slides online.

After reviewing those slides, get your application started. Also see cscareerquestions on reddit.

In 2014 and 2015, my colleague Matt Ball and I gave a presentation on how to effectively apply for industrial year placements, and the importance of a good online presence.
